Dry January: the results of 2025

France remains among the world's biggest consumers of alcohol, and ranks 6th among European Union countries where the most alcohol is consumed daily.

1. Trends in alcohol consumption in France

The overall trend, however, is towards a decrease in consumption, particularly due to public policies implemented over the last few decades (Evin law, road safety, etc.).

More broadly, a 2025 article reports that 15% of French people declare that they no longer drink alcohol at all, which illustrates the increase in abstinence (1).

2. The "no-low" market in figures

In 2022, according to a BVA poll, 35% of French people had expressed the intention to participate in Dry January (2).

3. Why such enthusiasm?

A more socially accepted alcohol-free market, an improved, much wider and higher quality offering, with entirely alcohol-free wine cellars being created and manufacturers paying particular attention to sugar, a strong consumer expectation.

Among no-low consumers, the proportion declaring consumption of "non-alcoholic / no-low spirits" will reach 21% in 2025 (1)

Another indicator: sales of non-alcoholic beers, wines and spirits are rising sharply — the "non-alcoholic / no-low" segment is expected to register annual growth of around 10 to 12%, according to a study reported in 2024.

4. How to approach Dry January 2026 calmly?

Dry January 2026 is the perfect opportunity to reassess your relationship with alcohol and start the year with more clarity and energy. To approach it calmly, you need to define your goal: do you want to take a break, take on a "reduce your consumption" challenge, or simply try a new, more balanced lifestyle?

Replacing your old habits with alternatives is a great start: alcohol-free cocktails, casual get-togethers with non-alcoholic drinks, or social activities that don't revolve around alcohol. Most importantly, go at your own pace, celebrate every small victory, and turn this month-long break into a rewarding experience.
